CSI sub-index lens.

Animal Agriculture Land-Use Index, G20 lens.

This is a filtered view of the Animal Agriculture Land-Use Index restricted to G20 economies. It is a dashboard product, not a separate CSI input.

Sub-index value for 2024.

15/101 of the CSI · Pressure reduction. Static candidate release date unavailable. The 2024 label is the nowcast period; the stored period-end timestamp is not a future operational update.

The G20 lens shows the land-use sub-index restricted to G20 economies. The CSI consumes the canonical land-use sub-index per methodology; this lens is a filtered view for inspection and is never counted into the CSI a second time. Every value is derived from declared candidate inputs, carries an explicit data-state label and stays provisional until authenticated production lineage and the benchmark trusted gate pass.

Contribution to the CSI

Raw priority weight
15/101, that is 15 of 101.
Direction factor
Pressure reduction (D = -1). A measured fall in this pressure lifts the sub-index.
Weighted contribution
15.40 Provisional, the share this sub-index adds to the composed CSI for 2024.

This sub-index is oriented to the CSI, so it falls as animal-agriculture land use rises. A declining line means the real-world metric is increasing, which records more animal-agriculture pressure and lowers the CSI. The inversion allows the sub-index to enter the CSI; it does not mean the activity itself is shrinking.

What this sub-index measures

Measured item
Permanent meadows and pastures: FAOSTAT domain RL, item 6655, element 5110, scope WORLD, unit million hectares.
Baseline window
2000-2004
Note
The certified metric ingests item 6655 only (upt-csi configs/sources.free_public.v1.yaml, dataset faostat_land_use, element_codes [5110], item_codes [6655]; 6610 and 6620 are crosscheck items). Values are FAOSTAT '1000 ha' divided by 1000.
Proposed change
ADR-016 (csi-v1.2.0 track): extend the measured scope beyond pasture. Not active in the served csi-v1.1.0.
The measured pasture series beside the series it does not measure, per scope. Change is first-to-latest; versus baseline compares the latest value with the 2000-2004 baseline-window mean. G20 is scope G20_SOVEREIGN_19: the 19 sovereign G20 members summed per year.

Findings

  • World permanent meadows and pastures (FAOSTAT RL 6655) fell 4.5% from 3381 Mha in 2000 to 3230 Mha in 2023; the G20 (19 sovereign members) fell 5.6%.
  • World cropland (FAOSTAT RL 6620) grew 5.3% (+80 Mha) over the same period while G20 cropland was -0.3%; world agricultural land (6610) moved -1.5%.
  • World feed allocation (FBS element 5521, families 2905/2911/2913, FBSH-to-FBS splice at 2013 as in the certified aggregator) rose 58% against the 2000-2004 window mean (summed tonnage). The per-family geometric-mean index, the shape the certified feed sub-index uses, stands at 1.78 in 2023 versus the 2000-2004 median baseline, +75% against the 2000-2004 window mean of that index.
  • The certified land-use sub-index measures pasture only (item 6655) with direction -1 and therefore reads the pasture-to-feed-cropland shift as an improvement; the cropland that grows animal feed is outside its scope. See ADR-016 for the proposed csi-v1.2.0 remedy (pasture plus feed-attributed cropland).
  • The served series is WORLD scope (iso3 WLD) although the sub-index surface labels its lens 'g20'; the G20 block here is the sum over the 19 sovereign members and is evidence only.
